Prayer Update: 08-04-07
Dear Prayer Partners,
Well, we are rolling along here in Mozambique. We have some answers to prayer! Our car's transmission parts arrived from JAPAN to Johannesburg, South Africa, where our transmission is. It took longer than expected, but there is still a chance that the transmission can get repaired and get on the Missionary Aviation Fellowship flight on AUGUST 8TH. Please pray that the transmission will make the MAF flight. If it doesn't, it could sit there for another month or we find another way, less secure.
Kevin and I have had bad colds for almost 2 weeks now and are on the mend. However, it seems like the boys are into it now, with drippy noses and coughs. Please pray that they will get healthy quickly.
We are very excited to be taking a little vacation! We'll leave on Wednesday and drive 2 hours to the coast where we'll camp (in a tent we brought) for 3 nights with old friends from South Africa. We hope to do lots of snorkeling and perhaps take a scuba diving lesson there in the bay of Nacala. No sharks there, luckily. Please pray that this time away will be relaxing and enjoyable with no snags, and that things at the house will be secure.
We are SO THANKFUL for the internet connection that we now have. I don't know what they did, but we are now able to do video conferencing with skype with no disconnections, very small lag time, and good picture. Toby was able to play with his grandma for over an hour on Friday (like he used to do from Portugal) and we have had wonderful conversations with our families. We are also able to use skype to call people's phones, at a very low price. We praise God for this luxury which seems like a necessity to us!
Please pray for Cami's Great Aunt Ruth, who was moved to a hospice hospital yesterday and is dying of cancer. Pray for peace for her, no pain, and that she will enter into glory knowing how much she is loved by us.
Our veranda is almost finished! The burglar bars went up this week and they are putting the smooth coat of cement on the walls. Please pray that Kevin will be able to continue good relationships with the workers. At this point, when the end of the work is in sight, is when things start to "disappear" from the work site, and the requests for money for "sickness" and "travel" start in earnest. Please pray for wisdom for us. One of our workers is a staunch Muslim (his name is Miro) and Kevin has a good relationship with him. However, this week he informed Kevin that he has to walk 4 hours each way to get to work. Another worker who lives near that guy told me it takes 15 minutes. Obviously, something's up.
That other worker, Joao, has a very ill wife. We have visited her and prayed for her 3 times. We have given money for treatment and received no receipt or follow-up. Last time, I requested that she have a blood test to determine her hemoglobin level (she is anemic) to see what further might be needed, and gave money for this. No return on the money, no receipt, no blood test results. Please pray that we will have wisdom on what to do. If we fire him, she definitely won't get treatment. But we can't continue to give money with no indication that it is helping her.
We need more dogs to protect the property. There may be an opportunity to get a German Shepherd puppy (perhaps 2). Please pray that we will be able to get at least one big dog, soon.
Please pray for some guidance for Kevin. He is considering starting a bible study in our home, at the request of several people. It would be an informal thing and may give him great practice in this mode of teaching, as well as spur him on in "religious" Portuguese (the vocabulary).
Please also pray for us for some personal heart issues that are on our minds, as well as close local friends to share them with.
Thank you for your faithful prayers! Things continue to go very well here and we are getting more comfortable with the environment and with the way of life. The kids are doing great and we are so thankful to be here and that God continues to provide for our needs.
with love from Mozambique,
Cami and Kevin
